This week (5th – 9th February), is NI Apprenticeship Week. This week aims to highlight the transformative impact of apprenticeships on both individuals and businesses.

At Automated Intelligence, we’ve collaborated with Workplus to provide several engineering apprenticeships, helping apprentices to get ahead in their chosen engineering and IT career.

We spoke to some of our apprentices to get their views on how choosing an apprenticeship has benefitted them in their careers.

Blain McCormick, Apprentice Software Engineer said:

“This apprenticeship has been immensely beneficial for both my personal and professional growth. It has provided me with the unique opportunity to merge theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on experience in the field of software engineering. This blend of learning has not only developed my technical skills but also given me a deeper understanding of real-world applications.

One aspect I’ve particularly enjoyed is the collaborative environment. Working alongside more experienced developers has allowed me to gain invaluable insights and has significantly accelerated my learning curve. The mentorship and guidance I’ve received has been pivotal in sharpening my problem-solving abilities.

Overall, the apprenticeship has not only equipped me with the necessary skills to thrive in this industry but has also instilled in me a sense of confidence and purpose in my career trajectory. I’m grateful for this opportunity and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.”

Will Lively, Apprentice Support Engineer said:

My apprenticeship has proven to be an exceptional avenue for personal and professional development, with distinct advantages that have propelled my career forward. The absence of student debt is a liberating aspect, affording me financial stability and freedom as I delve into my chosen field. Earning while learning has not only alleviated financial pressures but has also provided me with a unique opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios.

The industry experience gained during my apprenticeship has been pivotal in shaping my skill set, making me adept at tackling challenges within the workforce. What sets my apprenticeship apart is its structured nature, facilitating a seamless path for career progression. With each phase of my apprenticeship, I have witnessed tangible growth, gaining responsibilities and opportunities that contribute to my professional advancement. The trajectory is clear, and I am confident that the skills and experiences garnered during this apprenticeship will continue to propel me towards a fulfilling and successful career.”
