At an event in Cardiff County Hall today, over 30 Information and IT professionals from the Public Sector attended an Event with the City of Cardiff Council (Cardiff), sponsored by content management specialists Automated Intelligence (AI).  Cardiff showcased how they are delivering change across the council with reduced costs and enhanced business efficiencies through better management of information.

With over 348,000 citizens and 14,500 employees including 5,500 employees who have access to a computer for work purposes.  The council is in the process of transferring all their content and information to a collaborative working system which streamlines and automates work practices and business processes.  The council showed how, even in these early days, they are benefitting from improved information management capability to capture digital documents and information.

The overall solution they demonstrated is the council’s corporate Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMs) and is based on Microsoft SharePoint, enhanced by tools from Automated Intelligence.

The aim of the workshop was to discuss Information Governance and Records Management Requirements specific to Welsh Public sector.  This led with the question – Can SharePoint cut it?

Commenting on the Event, Ross Maude, Senior Enterprise Architect for the council comments; “Many of the organisations that attended think that SharePoint is a user-friendly tool for collaboration and document storage.  However many organisations have discounted it for managing information and records in compliance with relevant standards public sector bodies in Wales need to adhere to.  The City of Cardiff Council have been able to maximise our current technology investment with Microsoft and have a cost-effective and compliant system based on Microsoft SharePoint using tools from Automated Intelligence”

He continues “This investment will lead to more streamlined processes saving time, money and delivering efficiencies. This will enable us to work smarter and better so that we can improve and maintain standards of service delivery in the face of reducing resources for local government.”

Mark Godfrey, CEO, Automated Intelligence comments “We are delighted to be working with Cardiff.  Over the last couple of years we have engaged with various public sector organisations to help them adopt this innovative approach to managing their information.

The project provides a clear demonstration of our expertise in this area and we are delighted to be able to showcase our software in practice with Cardiff to similar organisations today.   The project with Cardiff is a further endorsement of AI’s capability and track record in providing leading edge information management solutions and skilled project management to the Public Sector.”
